HOLY GHOST! - SOME CHILDREN
There’s no denying that the departure of LCD Soundsystem has left a sizable hole in my heart (one of the bands that I wish I had seen live when I had the chance, final gig notwithstanding), but they’ve also left in gap in the ‘dance music that people self-conscious about their musical taste can enjoy’ market.
Whether fellow DFA-labalmates Holy Ghost! can take up that mantle remains to be seen, but they’ve gotten off to a good start this year, both with ‘Jam for Jerry’ and this banger, featuring none other than former Doobie Brother and yacht-rock stalwart Michael McDonald.
This is a track that just works. I can’t explain why with words. I guess you’ll just have to listen to it to understand what I mean. Oh, and when the backing singers start cheering and applauding themselves at the end? I love it when songs do that.
